Yahoo is looking to solve complex problems for its massively scalable, widely distributed, highly performant systems, and to modernize its infrastructure and migrate to cloud platforms like AWS and GCP.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python is a must; experience with R, Java, or scripting in Unix/Linux is a plus.
- Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure, especially GCP (BigQuery) and AWS (Redshift, S3, etc.).
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark, Hive, Hadoop, MapReduce.
- Demonstrated ability to automate data tasks, improve workflows, and increase efficiency in analytics pipelines.
- Experience with web and product analytics tools (Google Analytics, Amplitude, internal tracking systems, etc.).
- Proven ability to pull your own data, work across various data systems, and perform hands-on analysis across complex datasets.
- Comfortable navigating both analytics and engineering workflows — you understand how data is created, stored, and consumed.
Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct exploratory data analysis and investigations across Yahoo’s Search and advertising data sets to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies.
- Own and execute ad hoc analytical requests, diving deep into data systems to answer complex product and business questions.
- Support and improve the migration of data pipelines from on-premises (Linux/HDFS) to AWS and Google Cloud (GCP), working with principal data engineers and data architects.
- Develop or optimize data infrastructure and workflows to ensure data reliability, scalability, and accessibility for analytical use.
- Build scripts and tools to automate recurring tasks and increase efficiency in data processing and analysis.
- Design, test, and deploy predictive or statistical models using historical data, with a focus on explainability and impact.
- Present analytical findings to the immediate team and product leads; help frame the story and answer stakeholder questions confidently.
Other
- 3-6 years of experience in a Data Engineering, Data Science, or Analytics role.
- Strong communication skills — able to explain technical results to non-technical audiences and work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business teams.
- Comfortable working independently with a hands-off management style, but open to feedback and collaboration when needed.
- Flexible hybrid work options, with occasional in-person events or team sessions.
- Yahoo is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace, and will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law.
