Alpena Public Schools is looking for a Secondary Robotics Adviser to guide students in all aspects of First Robotics competition requirements, fostering a learning environment for CAD modeling, programming, and hands-on technical skills.
Requirements
- Willingness to learn how to use and teach CAD modeling, programming in a variety of languages depending on student preference and use of tools and equipment in the robotics lab such as 3D replicators, CNC machines, and small shop machinery equipment.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Knowledge of Physics and Engineering concepts is beneficial.
- Candidates should be safety conscious and able to teach and enforce key safety demands to students.
- Candidates should be able to work with students to establish and administer clear safety protocols and should be able to administer First Aid and CPR should the need arise.
- Candidates must have skills in effective communication with students, parents or guardians from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Willingness to learn how to use and teach CAD modeling, programming in a variety of languages depending on student preference and use of tools and equipment in the robotics lab such as 3D replicators, CNC machines, and small shop machinery equipment.
- Coach students in public speaking and prepare them for question and answer sessions about their build
- Plan instructional programs designed to meet individual student needs; prepare lesson plans and foster an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of students.
- Establish and implement classroom/robotics lab policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct.
- Create a safe and effective learning environment for all participants.
- Participate in at least two competitions annually.
- Write grants to support program operations.
Other
- Direct the activities of volunteer assistant mentors.
- Provide guidance and counseling to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct.
- Potentially travel with students to another state/country and the ability to organize and chaperone students/volunteer assistant mentors/parent chaperones during this trip.
- Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning the academic, behavioral, and developmental progress of students as well as the progress of the robot build, competition schedule and potential travel.
- Bachelors of Arts/Science degree preferred but not required.
