Uber's Ethics, Compliance, & Security (ECS) organization seeks a Sr. Data Analyst to advance Uber's ability to assess and mitigate complex global risks through data-driven insights, enabling strategic, risk-informed decision-making to enhance the resilience of Uber's global operations.

Requirements

  • Experience using SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience using Python (preferred) or R for data manipulation, statistical modeling, and automation.
  • Proficiency in advanced statistical modeling and machine learning techniques (including regression, clustering, classification, and casual inference) with the ability to select methods and optimize model specification independently.
  • Skilled in data visualization using tools and libraries such as Tableau, Plotly, ggplot, or Leaflet
  • Familiarity with economic or policy impact analysis (e.g., quasi-experimental evaluation methods, cost-benefit frameworks, regulatory assessments).
  • Familiarity with AI and advanced machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with data management, including data quality assurance, permissions management, ETL pipeline automation and optimization, and version control via Git.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex analytics initiatives supporting risk analysis and mitigation planning in all areas of risk to our operations, people, and facilities (not only direct security threats, but also the general risk landscape including geopolitical and economic developments, organized crime, natural disasters, etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Strategic Analysis team to derive insights by integrating Uber’s internal data with open-source intelligence (OSINT), other geopolitical indicators, and policy developments.
  • Lead development and maintenance of statistical and machine learning models that quantify security-related risks and impacts (physical, operational, regulatory, reputational, financial).
  • Conduct predictive modeling, causal inference, time series forecasting, impact evaluation, and other risk modeling as needed, tailored to security and geopolitical contexts.
  • Proactively identify and execute on opportunities to improve data quality; to streamline collection and reporting systems; and to improve the reliability and reduce the maintenance burdens of data pipelines, machine learning models, and other data program architecture.
  • Support cross-functional ECS initiatives on demand, acting as data subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor.
  • Use industry expertise to see around corners and build analytic products that meet Uber’s future as well as current needs.

Other

  • Master’s in Data Science, Statistics, Political Science, Economics, International Affairs, Criminology, or other directly relevant field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in quantitative research and/or data analytics, ideally blending both public-sector research and private-sector business exposure.
  • Coordinate and manage projects spanning teams and stakeholders globally; ensure timelines and deliverables are tracked, communicated to stakeholders, and successfully delivered.
  • Mentor junior analysts and promote data science best practices across DIA and other teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate findings to diverse audiences, including translating complex concepts and issues into actionable insights for senior management and non-technical audiences.
