Support an individual with significant social and communication challenges by providing consistent emotional and physical support.
Requirements
- Physically strong and able-bodied; preferably a larger person who can be a comforting physical presence
- Extremely patient and emotionally mature
- Capable of remaining calm and centered in unpredictable situations
- Understanding of or open to learning about neurodiversity, communication differences, and nontraditional expressions of behavior
- Not easily offended or frustrated; a good sense of humor is a plus
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or behavioral support needs is highly preferred
- Training in de-escalation or crisis intervention is a plus
Responsibilities
- Provide consistent patience when communication is repetitive or socially limited
- Engage in games and activities, even when attention drifts or tasks remain unfinished
- Assist with daily nutrition: heat prepared meals, make protein shakes, offer snacks
- Prompt and encourage hydration throughout the day
- Model respectful interaction and provide companionship without expectation of typical social engagement
- Maintain safety and structure while allowing for fun and flexibility
