Maxar is seeking an experienced AI/ML researcher to develop innovative solutions for national security missions by integrating bespoke capabilities and tools to solve complex customer challenges using geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) data.
Requirements
- 7+ years designing, developing, testing, and deploying AI/ML models on a variety of data types
- 2+ year working with synthetic training data generation, low-shot learning, and robust ML (not limited to computer vision)
- 2+ year working with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and integrating AI/ML capabilities (SageMaker, IBM Watson Studio, etc.)
- Experience with remote sensing, GEOINT datasets, and government collection platforms including electro-optical (EO), radio frequency (RF), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery
- Competence with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)
- Competence with Python’s geospatial libraries, such as gdal, geopandas, shapely, etc.
- Competence with deep learning algorithms for image science (YOLO, SSD, DetectNet, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Contributing to multi-discipline AI/ML research teams use of multi-INT data (with emphasis on GEOINT) to design/create/implement and rigorously evaluate machine learning approaches and relevant technologies
- Data engineering to transform various data types to support various phases of the AI/ML workflow
- Architect and develop novel AI/ML models (e.g., computer vision, semantic activity detection) applied to government data and integration
- Design, implement, and evaluate various edge-based AI/ML solutions to include hardware and software stacks
- Keeping abreast on recent AI/ML technical advances from industry and academia and applying them to customer mission problems
- Developing/maintaining expertise on a broad spectrum of AI/ML domains such as but not limited to computer vision, geospatial analytics/prediction, signal processing, and agentic approaches and synthesizing them to prototype capabilities
- Providing strategic advice to government on various AI/ML industry and research trends and solutioning

- Must be US Citizen.
- Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI Polygraph
- Ability to work with a geographically distributed team
- Ability to work onsite at Maxar’s Herndon office and surrounding area (20-mile radius)
- Effective communicator demonstrated through technical writing (proposals, white papers, academic publications) and speaking engagements (briefing larger groups, conference presentations, etc.)
