Modernization initiative within mainframe print solution, enhancing and consolidating legacy print processing components, including copybooks and CTG programs, and integrating with open systems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment.
- Strong knowledge of CICS, JCL, and VSAM.
- Experience with CTG (CICS Transaction Gateway) programs and integration with non-mainframe systems.
- Familiarity with spooler systems and print processing in mainframe environments.
- Ability to reverse engineer and document legacy systems.
- Strong debugging and unit testing skills.
- Exposure to SCCM tooling and Universal Spooler (a plus).
Responsibilities
- Analyze and document existing print-related COBOL copybooks and CTG programs.
- Design and implement a cohesive structure to reduce copybook complexity.
- Develop and unit test CICS and batch COBOL programs.
- Collaborate with open systems teams to define handoff points, data formatting, and return codes.
- Support the creation of test suites and test applications for new tooling.
- Assist in the installation and validation of new/updated copybooks across development, clone, and production environments.
- Support the decommissioning of legacy spooler systems post-migration.
