Baxter's Trademarks manages Baxter’s international portfolio of trademarks and advises on a broad range of trademark and brand-related legal matters, with an emphasis on clearance, prosecution and enforcement work.
Requirements
- Proficiency with trademark search and analytics software, hosted docketing systems, such as ANAQUA, and strong understanding of other electronic tools
- Minimum of seven years’ experience with U.S. and OUS trademark prosecution, searching, and enforcement experience
Responsibilities
- Oversee trademark clearance and prosecution processes to protect and strengthen the company’s global trademark portfolio, working closely with internal partners and outside counsel
- Maximize Baxter’s competitive trademark positions through creation and implementation of intellectual property strategies
- Advise on a wide range of brand-related matters, including rights of publicity and promotional materials to ensure compliance with trademark and related laws
- Monitor watch notices and challenge and defend trademarks in opposition, cancellation, domain name disputes, and other proceedings
- Prepare oppositions, cancellation, and invalidation actions
- Draft and negotiate trademark agreements, such as coexistence agreements, and IP licenses
- Support business as needed for due diligence in M&A projects
Other
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- State bar admission (specific state admission not required)
- In-house experience at a global corporation preferred but not required
- Experience in medical device industry is preferred but not required
- This role is a part-time opportunity (20-30 hours/week) with a need to work in our Deerfield, IL office on a hybrid basis
