The Department of Commerce is launching an initiative to leverage data to strengthen trust in Utah’s commercial activities. As such, we are looking for a talented individual to continue developing our data and reporting infrastructure and help establish sound data analytics practices across the organization.
Requirements
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or other public cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS), including an understanding of cloud-native networking, database security practices, and Linux-based operating systems.
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL
- Experience with statistical programming languages, including knowledge of R and/or Python.
- Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
- Overseeing cloud infrastructure for data storage, processing, and analysis.
- Working with stakeholders to identify, implement, and maintain infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data.
- Designing and implementing internal process improvements, including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and automating manual processes.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing the Department's use of cloud infrastructure for data storage, processing, and analysis;
- Working with technology and business stakeholders to identify, implement, and maintain infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources;
- Supporting design and implementation of internal process improvements, including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes;
- Assembling datasets that meet business requirements;
- Building analytical tools to provide actionable insight into key performance metrics;
- Helping produce public-facing dashboards and reports;
- Assisting stakeholders with data-related technical issues;
Other
- This position mandates in-person attendance for the initial minimum 6-month training period. Following successful completion of training, a hybrid teleworking schedule may be available, adhering to the State of Utah's policy of a minimum of two in-office days per week.
