To create a healthcare system with effective health information exchange, healthcare organizations need more than a series of connections between each other. They need assurance that the data being exchanged is meaningful and to know it will be delivered when and where they need it. Health Gorilla is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to architect, build and manage databases, data pipelines, and data warehouses to support this mission.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and scaling data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics environments.
- Proven expertise with AWS data services — including EMR, Redshift, Glue, S3, Athena, and Lambda.
- Experience with Databricks and Spark, with demonstrated ability to migrate or integrate from these systems to AWS-native solutions.
- Strong command of SQL, Python, and at least one compiled language (e.g., Java or Scala).
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT frameworks, data modeling, and data lake architectures.
- Hands-on experience implementing data quality frameworks, CI/CD for data pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
- Familiarity with HIPAA-compliant data handling, FHIR, or other healthcare interoperability standards is a strong plus.
Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines to support analytics and operational workloads.
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
- Partner with data scientists, analysts, and engineering teams to ensure data accessibility, consistency, and quality across the organization.
- Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices aligned with healthcare and interoperability standards.
- Drive automation and observability in data workflows, ensuring resilience, transparency, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance data capabilities.
- Collaborate with leadership to shape the data strategy roadmap, ensuring scalability for the company’s growth.
