The Growth Product Data Science team at Square (part of Block) is looking for a data scientist to partner with product, design, and engineering to surface insights, design experiments, and influence product strategy and roadmap prioritization to drive seller growth and economic empowerment.
Requirements
- Fluency with SQL and Python
- Experience using AI tools to automate mundane tasks, accelerate development, and enhance solutions
- Experience with BI tools and data engineering fundamentals
- Familiarity with standard machine learning concepts and statistics concepts (including causal inference)
- SQL and ETL: Snowflake, Airflow, Prefect
- Data Viz and BI: Looker, Tableau, Mode, Amplitude
- ML / Stats: Python (Databricks)
Responsibilities
- Analyze large datasets using SQL & scripting languages to surface actionable insights & opportunities to the product team and other stakeholders, driving strategy and facilitating decision-making for key business initiatives
- Approach problems from first principles, using a variety of statistical modeling techniques to research and understand customer behavior and business performance
- Design & analyze A/B tests and apply pseudo-experimental methods such as DiD, synthetic controls, or related causal inference techniques
- Build, forecast, and report on metrics that inform strategy and facilitate decision-making for key business initiatives: visualizing data in self-serve dashboards for your partners
- Work with engineers to log new, useful data sources as we build new product features
- Write code to effectively process, cleanse, and combine data sources in scaled & useful ways, often resulting in curated ETL datasets that are easily used by the broader team
- Expand your influence in the Block Data Science community by developing and evangelizing data solutions to improve analytics insightfulness and actionability.
