United Airlines is looking to solve management problems through quantitative analysis and analytical models using operations research, machine learning, and structured programming languages.
Requirements
- At least 3 of the following mathematical programming techniques: Linear Programming (LP), Non-Linear Programming (NLP), Integer Programming (IP), and Mixed Integer Programming (MIP);
- Model prototyping through use of optimization toolkit(s) including CPLEX, AMPL, or OPL;
- C, C++, Java, R, Python, or other structured programming language;
- Decomposition techniques including Bender’s and Lagrangean decomposition, algorithms including column generation, gradient descent, and branch and price, and transformation of nonlinear programs;
- Handling large data sets (more than 100,000 elements) for use in operations research problems; and
- Developing heuristic algorithms to solve operations research problems.
Responsibilities
- Develop the approach and methods to define and solve management problems through quantitative analysis and analytical models using operations research, machine learning, and structured programming languages.
- Build and develop operations research/optimization mathematical models and provide client support.
- Leverage understanding of the business process to identify and implement solutions that will result in significant bottom-line contributions.
- Participate in model design, prototype, and model development for several efforts that occur simultaneously and interface with product delivery groups.
- Identify, research, or solve large complex problems using big data, operations research, and machine learning principals.
- Design analytic plan/develop hypotheses to test and understand limitations of analysis (what it can and cannot be used for).
- Communicate results to management and clients.
