Kemper is looking to modernize its mainframe applications within the Life Insurance Line of Business by migrating legacy systems to the AWS cloud.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software development, systems architecture, and solution design.
  • Proven experience with AWS Mainframe Modernization (AWS M2), including tools like Micro Focus, BluAge, or AWS Migration Hub.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI for dashboards, data modeling, and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Python, especially in automation or data processing contexts.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools or platforms (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI APIs, LangChain).
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools, DevOps practices, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical implementation of AWS M2 for mainframe application modernization projects.
  • Design and develop scalable, resilient architectures for migrating legacy systems to AWS cloud.
  • Integrate and visualize business data using Power BI for analytics and reporting.
  • Leverage Python for scripting, automation, and building GenAI-driven tools or prototypes.
  • Apply GenAI capabilities to enhance automation, decision-making, or user experience within Life Insurance applications.
  • Drive best practices in architecture, coding standards, and cloud DevOps within a regulated environment.
  • Ensure security, compliance, and performance requirements are met throughout the software development lifecycle.

Other

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum-based development environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect) preferred.
  • Experience in the Life Insurance or broader insurance domain.
  • This position works at the Kemper office.
