Alliant Energy is looking for a Sr. Gas Trader to manage the buying and scheduling of natural gas to ensure customers are warm and power plants are operational, while also implementing strategies to minimize ratepayer gas costs.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in energy trading, scheduling, risk management, forecasting, engineering, or equivalent analytical or financial experience
- Demonstrated understanding of public utility economics, operations and market economics and finance concepts preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
Responsibilities
- Solicits bids for and negotiates the purchase and sale of physical natural gas commodity for periods up to 60 days in advance.
- Monitors reports, electronic bulletin boards, and interacts with contacts at pipeline companies to track key volume activity accounts (imbalance, storage levels, etc.) and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Implements strategies developed by leadership for minimizing ratepayer gas costs.
- Tracks costs, profits and savings from negotiations and trades for management and accounting reporting.
- Assists in the negotiation of interstate pipeline contracts.
- Schedules gas on the interstate pipelines and monitors system demand to adjust supplies as necessary, including weekend and holiday coverage.
- Makes decisions on purchases and sales in accordance with management directives.
