Vicor is looking to develop, implement, and optimize advanced laser-based processes for next-generation power component manufacturing to advance product performance, enhance packaging technologies, and ensure robust, scalable, and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.
Requirements
- Proficiency in statistical methods (DOE, SPC, FMEA) and data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, MATLAB, Python, SQL).
- Strong understanding of the fundamentals of laser-material interaction (e.g., ablation, melting, surface structuring, multi-photon absorption, thermal effects).
- Strong hands-on skills in designing and conducting laser processing experiments and analyzing results.
- Proven experience with laser process development and recipe optimization (e.g., trench geometry, minimizing heat-affected zone).
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CircuitCAM) and laser programming software.
- Knowledge of laser safety regulations and procedures.
- Proficiency in optical system design, including beam delivery, beam shaping, and focusing.
Responsibilities
- Work to develop advanced manufacturing capabilities and packaging processes utilizing precision laser equipment. Will be involved with specification/development of necessary equipment, process development, qualification, scale up and production.
- Operate and maintain laser-based materials processing systems and procedures.
- Perform experimental investigations to examine and characterize fundamental physical phenomena in laser-assisted material processing.
- Implement and manage real time SPC and utilize Six Sigma tools such as PFMEAs to implement meaningful process controls.
- Troubleshoots laser systems, as well as analyzing process performance and recommending improvements.
- Lead communications with laser system manufacturers to identify and evaluate emerging technologies for integration into Vicor’s manufacturing operations.
- Communicate with NPI / Design team to suggest approach in favor of better yield.

- 5+ years of experience, in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
