Airbnb is looking to build and scale a world-class organization of machine learning, natural language, computer vision, and AI experts to develop cutting-edge predictive, prescriptive, and agentic capabilities to stop fraud and abuse, while cultivating positive trust with the guest and host community.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in machine learning methodologies and their application to trust, fraud, and/or safety.
- Hands-on experience in building machine learning systems at scale, particularly related to natural language and/or computer vision.
- Experience with trust and safety in marketplace, platform, or multi-sided business environments.
Responsibilities
- Build and scale automated systems for content understanding and intelligence, ranging from text, image, and audio content.
- Partner with engineering teams to operationalize sophisticated detection and actioning models into production systems that support organizational goals, while maintaining high technical quality standards.
- Establishing the technical and organizational foundation that enables thoughtful fraud detection and mitigation, while driving deep, content-informed understanding of guests, hosts, and listings.
- Build and scale a world-class organization of machine learning, natural language, computer vision, and AI experts who develop cutting-edge predictive, prescriptive, and agentic capabilities.
- Leverages AI and machine learning to understand guest and host behaviors, rich content, fraud and abuse vectors, and the actions required to build trust.

- Set organizational vision and strategy for fraud and abuse, cascading goals across your team and aligning roadmaps to further long-term strategic objectives.
- Attract, retain, and develop senior individual contributors and technical leaders, building Airbnb’s applied science and AI communities.
- Present complex analytical findings and strategic recommendations to executive leadership, influencing cross-functionally at the company level and contributing to papers and technical forums in the fraud and trust space.
- Proven track record of setting organizational vision and strategy, translating complex modeling insights into business strategy, and driving cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable impact across large organizations with 1+ year strategic thinking horizon.
- Experience managing teams through long-term, high-ambiguity projects with ability to persevere through uncertainty and make strategic pivots when necessary.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across Data Science and cross-functionally at the company level.
- 4+ years of people management experience leading high-performing teams of data scientists, applied scientists, economists, or applied researchers, with demonstrated ability to attract, retain, and grow senior individual contributors.
