Wizards of the Coast is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering to lead two critical engineering teams responsible for building the next generation content and digital asset management tools for creative and production teams across their Studios. These modern tools will power creative processes, enable scale and integrations across the enterprise.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or team leadership role.
- Robust technical knowledge spanning legacy and current tech stacks; leading teams that uphold expansive enterprise systems.
- Proven track record of managing third-party outsourcing vendors or distributed teams on complex projects.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based architectures (preferably AWS), modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React), backend services (e.g., Go, Python, or C-Sharp), and database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Demonstrated success leading multi-team efforts, including migration projects or platform transitions.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, continuous integration, and deployment practices.
- Experience working with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), DAM (Digital Asset Management), or CMS (Content Management) systems.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), Kubernetes, or Akamai.
Responsibilities
- Leading teams and defining the technical direction by coordinating software development, maintenance, and modernization of internal business systems.
- Work closely with Product, Design and Enterprise teams to define priorities, scope projects, and align roadmaps across both teams.
- Support the gradual transition from legacy to modern systems by developing and implementing migration plans that minimize risk and improve long-term value.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and career development support to engineers at all levels.
- Advocate for engineering guidelines that prioritize maintainability, performance, scalability, and security.
- Drive project execution by setting clear goals, improving delivery processes, and removing blockers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, innovation, and continuous learning.
Other
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology; or comparable work experience.
- Excellent communication and people leadership skills — able to align cross-functional teams and advocate for your engineers.
- Enthusiasm for or familiarity with Magic: The Gathering gameplay and mechanics.
