KBR is seeking a Mission Assurance Quality Engineer to work on-site at NRL in SE Washington, DC to participate on a team of engineers, design technicians, and testing staff to develop spaceflight hardware. The MAQE will help lead the spectrum of mission assurance activities required throughout the lifecycle of product development. They will also assist the Mission Assurance Manager in quality management system procedure development and supplier evaluations as required.

Requirements

  • Specialized skill sets in EEE parts engineering review and evaluation are preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with NASA or NRL spaceflight hardware development, or experience with NASA or NRL and knowledge and demonstrated skills in the application of Y14.5, ISO 9001-1994, ISO 9000-2000, AS9100, FEMA’s, Risk Management, and statistical process techniques
  • Familiarity and experience with DoD and NASA standard for reliability, quality assurance, and system safety
  • A strong and demonstrable knowledge of requirements related to electromechanical systems; soldered assemblies, cable, crimp, and harness assemblies; dimensioning and tolerancing; measurement systems; metrology; ESD controls; non-conforming material control; identification and traceability; storage and handling; inspection systems; and fabrication of aerospace products.
  • Experience managing suppliers including determining appropriate requirements to be flowed down; creating and reviewing Quality Assurance plans and procedures; completing on-site process and product inspections; participating in Material Review Boards, and completing document and data reviews prior to shipment

Responsibilities

  • Support flight hardware development and testing activities through test witnessing and inspections
  • Participate in formal and informal technical reviews
  • Perform source acceptance inspections
  • Review and approve subcontractor plans, procedures, and design documents
  • Participating in Material Review Boards
  • Elicit root causes and corrective actions when appropriate
  • Provide various other quality assurance support tasks as assigned.

Other

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or related field
  • 10 + years of demonstrated experience in the aerospace industry
  • In lieu of formal education, at least 18 years of progressive related experience
  • Demonstrable ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting and competing priorities and multiple discipline interfaces daily (program management, engineering, quality, science, configuration management, government quality representatives, etc.)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong computer skills
