Provide technical support to the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) to conduct rigorous mission engineering activities to identify and prioritize investments in capabilities with the potential to meet current and future warfighting needs, close warfighting gaps, and enable Joint Force interoperability and integration. In addition to harness modeling and simulation (M&S) tools and advanced techniques to develop and analyze critical Joint Mission Engineering Threads (METs) / “Kill Webs” in operational scenarios, enabling DoD leaders to make informed technology investment decisions.
Requirements
- 7 years of experience in operations research with a focus on mission engineering, systems engineering, or operational analysis.
- 5 years of experience with mission planning and analysis to include the development or evaluation of mission threads, operational plans (OPLANs), concepts of operations (CONOPS), concepts of employment (CONEMPS) and defense systems.
- 3 years of working knowledge and experience understanding of modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A) techniques to support operational planning, system performance analysis, or mission design in defense contexts.
- 2 years of experience within the military or defense sector in areas related to joint operations, combat systems, research and development (R&D) and science and technology (S&T), or mission planning.
Responsibilities
- Conducts logical analysis of management problems and management information requirements and formulates mathematical models of problems for solutions by computer.
- Prepares mathematical models of problem areas in forms of one of several equations that relate constants and variables, restrictions, alternatives, conflicting objectives and their numerical parameters.
- Gathers, relates, identifies data with variables in models by applying personal judgment and mathematical tests.
- Analyzes operations methods, which require substantial competence in the rigorous methods of scientific and mathematical inquiry and analysis.
- Experience in Mission Engineering, mission planning and analysis to include the development or evaluation of mission threads, operational plans (OPLANs), concepts of operations (CONOPS), concepts of employment (CONEMPS) and defense systems.
- Experience understanding of modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A) techniques to support operational planning, system performance analysis, or mission design in defense contexts.
- Experience within the military or defense sector in areas related to joint operations, combat systems, research and development (R&D) and science and technology (S&T), or mission planning.
Other
- 3 years of experience collaborating with diverse teams including engineering, operational planners, and technologists, to accomplish complex tasks. This includes interactions with the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Military Services, Intelligence Community or Office of Secretary of Defense organizations.
- Bachelors: Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Management Science, Physics; OR possess a certificate from advanced Professional Military Education relevant to Military Training and/or Military Planning
