General Motors is looking to ensure their autonomous mobile robots meet the highest safety standards without compromising performance or flexibility, by advancing the state of the art of robotics safety systems.
Requirements
- Familiarity with AMR technologies including navigation systems, LiDAR, safety PLCs, fail-safe devices, and safety-rated sensors.
- Professional experience working with a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) to achieve one or more of the following: UL (Underwriters Laboratories), ISO (International Organization for Standardization) ANSI (American National Standards Institute) RIA (Robotic Industries Association).
- Mechanical and/or electrical design or fabrication experience
- Validation experience aligned with ISO 3691-4, ISO 13849-1, and ISO 13849-2.
- 3+ years of experience in controls, diagnostics, or safety validation, including successful UL Certification for new products.
- Deep expertise in system safety standards and risk assessment methodologies (e.g., ISO 12100:2010, ISO 13849-1/2).
- Proficiency with safety tools and technologies such as Sistema, safety PLCs, HMIs, and diagnostic monitors.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for driving early ‘clean sheet’ product designs towards safety capable outcomes as part of the product development team.
- Define safety system architecture in collaboration with the Electrical product architect, Autonomy system PEM, and System Safety Engineering, including subsystem interfaces and lower-level requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on wiring diagrams, architecture reviews, and prioritization of safety-critical requirements.
- Ensure compliance capability for UL Certification and manage risk using tools like ASAP, GComply and GRisk.
- Develop and execute system validation and verification strategies to meet safety targets (SIL/PL).
- Interface with regulatory bodies to support product certification and safety audits.
- Ensure adherence to UL and ANSI/RIA R15.08-1,2 standards for industrial mobile robots (IMRs).
Other
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field.
- 4+ years of professional experience in Functional/System Safety, or safety-rated circuit design.
- 1+ year of experience in manufacturing environment safety
- Must be able to work onsite on a regular basis at the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment screening prior to beginning employment.
