American Express is looking to drive innovation in Enterprise Metadata Management Platforms, owning vision, roadmap, enabling secure, scalable, and compliant data ecosystems.
Requirements
- 6+ years in technical product management/engineering, including 5+ years in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) partnering closely with engineering.
- Hands-on data/code fluency: strong SQL; RDBMS (Oracle/Postgres/SQL Server) and No-SQL (MongoDB/Cassandra/Bigtable); ability to read/understand Java and Python (Go a plus) and interpret code paths for lineage.
- Deep knowledge of metadata domains: technical metadata, business glossary, lineage, data-quality signals/rules, sensitivity/classification, retention & deletion, stewardship/ownership.
- Proven delivery integrating catalog/lineage/classification tools and building custom connectors/APIs; REST/GraphQL, Kafka/Pub/Sub; microservices on AWS/Azure/GCP with Docker/Kubernetes.
- Practical exposure to AI in metadata (auto-classification/PII, AI-assisted lineage, semantic search) and vector stores (OpenSearch/Elastic/Pinecone/Vertex Matching Engine).
- Demonstrated ability to set OKRs, analyze telemetry, prioritize data-driven roadmaps, and communicate crisply with executives.
- GSIB/Tier-1 bank experience in data/metadata platforms or data governance with exposure to risk, compliance, and audit examinations.

- Drive enterprise-scale harvesting from SQL & No-SQL stores, ETL/ELT, orchestration (Airflow/Control-M), code repos (Java/Python/Go), pipelines (Spark/Beam), cloud services; implement CDC and schema evolution— including embeddings and code-to-lineage inferences
- Evaluate/integrate vendor and open-source platforms (Collibra/Alation, ATLAN, Foundational.io, Manta/Solidatus, Data Hub. Open Metadata); optimize TCO and make build-vs-buy calls, with AI guardrails and privacy-by-design
- Define/evolve domain models, taxonomies, glossary, stewardship and certification workflows; enforce RBAC/ABAC, masking, and data minimization with AI suggestion review loops
