GrayMatter Robotics is looking to solve manufacturing industry problems by empowering shop floor workers with smart robots that assist with tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks, specifically in automated surface finishing and painting applications. The company aims to improve the quality of life for the workforce, increase production capacity, and reduce scrap, repair, and rework costs.
Requirements
- Experience programming 6DOF robots for various surface finishing applications
- Experience with ROS and Linux environments.
- Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with 1K/2K/3K mixing/proportioning, color-change manifolds, fluid delivery/circulation systems, and electrostatic rotary bells vs. spray guns. Experienced in tuning shaping air, voltage, and presets.
- Familiarity with hollow-wrist routing, 7th-axis variants, and similar reachability optimization techniques.
- Experience with EH&S Code and compliance such as NFPA 33/OSHA 1910.107 alignment, fire protection, and mix-room limits matter.
- Integrate with PLCs and safety (e.g., AB/Siemens; SafeMove/DCS) for booth/oven/air-handler interfaces and LOTO procedures.
Responsibilities
- Configure GMR-AI to generate tool paths and trajectories for robotic paint operations
- Develop OLP/coverage models (e.g., RobotStudio Paint, Tecnomatix), including film-build/thickness simulation and coverage & cycle-time optimization
- Work with mechanical and robotics engineers to design and develop the work cell for a specific task, keeping in mind the robot's reachability, coverage on part, and cycle time
- Make any necessary design modifications on the robot end-of-arm-tool and part fixtures by working with mechanical engineers, and get parts fabricated, assembled, and tested
- Design, implement, and deploy robotic cells, systems, and components
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain control components such as proximity sensors, relays, and vacuum ejectors
- Develop process recipes for a consistent outcome
Other
- Work with the customer to learn about the manufacturing process and requirements, including observing the current process, taking measurements, collecting existing process data, CAD, and machine documentation
- Work with engineering and support firms
- Lead rigorous system testing practices
- Lead proof of concepts for customers
- Create documentation, manuals, and educational contents
