GrayMatter Robotics is looking to solve manufacturing industry problems by empowering shop floor workers with smart robots that assist with tedious and ergonomically challenging tasks, specifically in automated surface finishing. The company aims to improve the quality of life for their workforce while increasing production capacity, and reducing scrap, repair, and rework costs.
Requirements
- Experience programming 6DOF robots for various surface finishing applications
- Experience with ROS and Linux environments
- Hands-on experience with force-control strategies, tool wear compensation, grit selection, and dust-extraction systems
- Experience with large-part processing, multi-axis fixturing, and reachability optimization techniques
- Basic programming knowledge in C++, Python, or other similar languages
- Demonstrated experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and development of 2D manufacturing drawings
- Familiarity with compliance standards related to surface finishing (e.g., OSHA dust exposure limits, EH&S requirements for sanding systems)
Responsibilities
- Configure GMR-AI to generate tool paths and trajectories for robotic paint operations
- Develop sanding and polishing models including cycle-time and material-removal optimization
- Work with mechanical and robotics engineers to design and develop the work cell for a specific task, keeping in mind the robot's reachability, coverage on part, and cycle time
- Make any necessary design modifications on the robot end-of-arm-tool and part fixtures by working with mechanical engineers, and get parts fabricated, assembled, and tested
- Design, implement, and deploy robotic cells, systems, and components
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain control components such as proximity sensors, relays, and vacuum ejectors
- Develop process recipes for a consistent outcome
Other
- Work with the customer to learn about the manufacturing process and requirements, including observing the current process, taking measurements, collecting existing process data, CAD, and machine documentation
- Work with the product and engineering teams to improve the customer experience
- Participate in business proposal writing
- Travel may be required up to 20% of the time
- Must meet export control requirements in the United States and maintain ongoing work authorization beginning at the time of hire through the entirety of employment
