The Metropolitan Museum of Art is looking to solve the problem of engaging online audiences and creating a dynamic and inspiring art museum experience through the development of its website and emerging technology efforts.
Requirements
- 5 or more years of professional experience in software and application development, with experience or interest in applying artificial intelligence systems in practical contexts
- Proficiency with JavaScript and Python.
- Proficiency with Git and experience implementing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Playwright, GitHub Actions) for automated testing.
- Experience developing in Agile or iterative environments, including participation in planning and review cycles.
- Familiarity with technologies for exploring, visualizing, and analyzing large visual datasets, such as computer vision, machine learning, or visual search.
- Familiarity with or interest in search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Meilisearch), Web CMS platforms, REST APIs, and GraphQL.
- Strong collaborative team player with a learning mindset.
Responsibilities
- As part of the Application Development team, collaborate with the Product Development team to architect and build features for metmuseum.org.
- Develop shared libraries and reusable code to support the broader Product Development team.
- Support emerging technology initiatives through rapid development and iteration, especially focused on applications of AI for web-based visitor experiences.
- Develop, pilot and, when appropriate, scale internal emerging technology projects, supporting collections management, digital content, and data teams.
- Coordinate with IT colleagues regarding infrastructure, security, and deployment requirements.
- Apply new technologies, platforms, and approaches to improve digital experiences for onsite visitors and help online visitors discover and navigate The Met’s website, including online collections and related content.
- Integrate emerging tech into high-impact web applications, such as search.
