Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is looking to reimagine ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while also transforming their media business for the future. The Quality, Targeting, and Experience team specifically aims to develop automated feedback loops that drive video delivery for Disney Streaming's services, balancing business strategy with internet demands to provide high-quality, error-free streaming media and improve media delivery through robust data pipelines.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing and delivering backend architectures in a production environment, with a strong understanding of design patterns and best practices.
  • Experience building RESTful services
  • Proficient in at least one programming language: Scala, Java, Go, or Python.
  • Familiar with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-availability backend services and JVM-based applications.
  • Knowledge of functional programming patterns.
  • Experience with observability tools for metrics, logging, and monitoring (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, Grafana).

Responsibilities

  • designing and delivering backend architectures in a production environment

  • hands-on experience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS)
  • experience with stream processing frameworks like Flink or Spark
  • familiarity with CDN technologies
  • developing robust data pipelines that calculate and report the quality of experience that our customers receive

Other

  • Self-motivated, independent, and excellent at problem-solving, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced developers and help them improve their technical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Interest in video streaming and internet networking.
