Microsoft is looking to optimize system performance and ensure smooth functionality across a diverse range of systems by integrating hardware, firmware, operating systems, host software, and cloud services that power Microsoft Azure.
Requirements
- Coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, OR Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 2 year(s) experience in system software development, with a focus on software, hardware, firmware, operating systems, Linux software development, computer architecture, operating systems internals, and system-level software design principles.
- Kernel-level programming, device drivers, and real-time operating systems (preferred)
- Experience with low-level programming languages and system-level development
- Experience with firmware solutions and hardware components
- Experience with Linux-based systems and operating systems internals
- Experience with system-level software design principles and computer architecture
Responsibilities
- Software Development: Design and implement high-quality software components spanning hardware interfaces, firmware, operating systems, host software, and Linux-based systems. Leverage your proficency in low-level programming languages and system-level development to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
- Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Advance Firmware and Hardware Interactions: Collaborating closely with hardware and firmware engineers, you will architect and implement firmware solutions that maximize the efficiency and functionality of hardware components, optimizing system performance and enabling seamless integration with software layers.
- Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware developers, and system architects, to deliver integrated solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
Other
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- 4+ years technical engineering experience
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
