Microsoft's Substrate Workload Management (WLM) team is responsible for managing millions of background and system tasks for M365 and Copilot users, aiming to maximize resource utilization while ensuring stable and efficient system operation without impacting end-user experience. They are driving towards intelligent automated operations.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with distributed systems and cloud services.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex technical issues, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python

Responsibilities

  • plan, design, develop and test software systems or applications for software enhancements which may be used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet-related computer programs.
  • develop software, AI/LLM tools and code to be used in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms as well as commercial or end-user applications.
  • use current programming language and technologies to write code, perform testing and debug any issues with robust documentation, procedures for deployment and processes for maintenance.
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to setup and run Experiments, evaluate results and impact and report.

Other

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
