Planet is looking to improve and maintain its Mosaic products, which provide spatially and temporally consistent views of Earth at a global scale, to better serve its customers across various sectors.
Requirements
- Expert in scientific Python development
- Familiarity with both image processing methods and geospatial algorithms and data
- Experience running workloads at scale in production
- Experience with collaborative coding tools such as GitHub or GitLab
- Experience with long-term software project management
- Experience with mentoring other engineers
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn new skills as needed
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the image processing algorithms which create Planet’s Mosaic products.
- Ensure that data production runs reliably and efficiently at global scale.
- Ensure that data requested by our customers is available when needed.
- Represent the Mosaics team in discussions with teams both upstream (handling individual image acquisition and processing) and downstream (delivering data to customers or using mosaic machinery for other Planet products) to ensure high image quality and smooth delivery.
- Contribute to planning the team’s technical direction
- Mentor other engineers
- Own the systems which decide which data to produce and when
Other
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience in a related field
- Excellent written communication skills to support asynchronous remote collaboration
- Ability to work from an office 3 days per week if located near an office
- Ability to work remotely full-time
- Must be based in the United States or Canada
