Coinbase is building the future of internet-native payments with the x402 protocol, an open, internet-scale standard designed to make global payments as seamless as sending an email. The company needs to define and evolve this protocol, build related developer tools, SDKs, and payment infrastructure to bring x402 to life, shaping how money moves on the internet.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend development working closely with frontend engineers
- Strong experience in building scalable and secure software and SDKs
- Proficiency with Golang, Typescript, and Python.
- Knowledge of Web3 technologies, stablecoins, smart contracts, and wallets.
- Experience with AI and emerging AI protocol standards (MCP, A2A).
- Track record of building and maintaining impactful open-source projects.
Responsibilities
- Defining the x402 protocol standard for the internet-native payment protocol
- Building and maintaining x402 related products such as the x402 SDK, Payment MCP, Payment Facilitators, and onchain payment protocols.
- Collaborating with open-source contributors to evolve the standard through GitHub discussions, issues, and PR reviews.

- In-person participation is required throughout the year.
- Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
