Google Cloud's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. This role is focused on improving Federation support for BigLake and shaping the architecture and future of BigQuery's metadata management capabilities, impacting the user experience across the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data analytics landscape.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with software development in C++ or Java.
  • 3 years of experience designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience with data analytics metadata systems (e.g., HMS, cloud computing platform Glue, Iceberg Rest Catalog) or data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Trino, Flink, Beam).
  • Experience with data lakes, particularly using Apache Iceberg.
  • Experience in Apache or other similar open-source projects such as Iceberg, Delta, Hudi, Spark, Presto, Flink etc.
  • Experience with Cloud Networking.

Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and its impact.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack.
