Google is looking to improve the efficiency of its columnar data storage format, Capacitor, and drive innovation in query processing to better serve its users and customers.
Requirements
- Experience programming in C++.
- Experience in the following areas: distributed systems, data infrastructure, performance analysis.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
- Experience with columnar storage formats and runtimes.
- Knowledge of structured data/relational data management or query processing.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: database internals, full stack system debugging.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement columnar data storage format internals, data encodings and their processing algorithms in C++ codebase.
- Collaborate across vectorized query runtime and storage teams to implement most efficient data encodings and processing algorithms.
- Track industry trends and help to drive innovation in the highly engaged query processing space.
- Put Capacitor users first. Work across BigQuery runtime and storage teams and other teams at Google that use Capacitor to identify requirements and drive innovations in Capacitor to satisfy their needs.
- Run performance analysis in test environments and production to identify areas for improvements.

- US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
