Microsoft is looking to develop features, improvements, enhancements, and bugfixes within Azure SQL products, which are used by a worldwide customer base. The role also involves deploying and operating these services within a highly secured and regulated air-gapped environment, meeting strict security policy and assurance requirements for both public and private sector customers.

Requirements

  • coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • 3+ years of experience with PowerShell, C-Sharp, or C++.
  • Experience working on large-scale distributed services with on-call responsibilities.
  • Front-end: React/TypeScript
  • Back-end: C-Sharp/API development/Resource Provider development
  • DevOps: CI/CD ADO

Responsibilities

  • Defines and develops standardized, repeatable, scalable solutions to guarantee quality.
  • Develops “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
  • Improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves problem areas.
  • Applies best practices to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods.
  • Builds, enhances, reuses, contributes to, and identifies new software developer tools to support other programs and applications to create, debug, and maintain code for products.
  • Contributes to the development of automation within production and deployment of a complex product feature.
  • Maintains operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

Other

  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure high availability of services.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Considers testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understands when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Maintains communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers.
