Discord aims to enhance the gaming experience by making it easier and more fun for people to connect and interact before, during, and after playing games. The Social Layer of Gaming team is focused on building tools for game developers to integrate the power of Discord directly into their games, fostering deeper relationships among players.
Requirements
- You have 4-5 years experience as a software engineer.
- You have experience with some parts of our tech stack: Python, Elixir, Rust, Typescript/React, or C++.
- You have experience leveraging a cloud platform (GCP, Amazon, or Azure) to serve as the backend infrastructure for a product.
- You have a sense for product and design. We don’t operate in silos, and you’ll be collaborating closely with cross-functional peers. You should be able to express opinions and collaborate to make something great.
- You take a holistic approach to problem solving. You believe in solving a problem from first principles rather than simply shipping a solution. You learn from your mistakes and work through obstacles with the rest of the team.
- You actively leverage LLMs to accelerate your productivity.
Responsibilities
- Design and build out core features for our audience of game developers. This could include anything from our APIs, realtime infrastructure, C++ SDKs, developer portal, or even in the UI. Whatever it takes to get the important thing done.
- Use your attention to detail to continually raise the quality bar of the software we write.
- Work with the other engineers on your team to write, review, and ship elegant and scalable code. You take pride in the fact that your code will be used by millions and millions of people!
- Be the lead on projects through the whole life cycle: including gathering requirements, mapping out its scope, building, and shipping it.
- Collaborate with our game developer partners to better understand their needs in order to improve our tools. This could mean hopping into partner meetings as a technical expert, answering questions in channels, and occasionally helping them design out a solution.
- Work with product managers, designers, and product marketers to cut through ambiguity and find the way forward.
