Shippo aims to make merchants successful through world-class shipping by providing them with best-in-class solutions that level the playing field. They are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to create and maintain systems that enable users' most critical workflows through their web app.
Requirements
- Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Deep experience with modern UI frameworks (React with hooks and context API) and libraries (Redux, Tanstack Query, MUI)
- Proficiency in server-side programming (Python, Go, Java, Ruby) and microservice frameworks (FastAPI, RESTful services)
- Strong knowledge of software design principles, OOP, and architectural patterns; ability to coach others on applying them
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Expertise with integrating with APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC)
- Expertise with AWS/Cloud Services
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end solutions spanning APIs, services, databases, and modern UIs
- Build and maintain robust, well-tested code, ensuring features are delivered reliably to production
- Develop reusable components and patterns that improve product consistency and scalability across teams
- Lead architectural discussions and contribute to technical strategy
- Champion QA and test automation to strengthen quality and operational excellence
- Design and implement telemetry, metrics, and tools to analyze user behavior, system health, and business impact
- Drive iterative improvements, ensuring continuous delivery of value and reduction of technical debt
Other
- Drive execution on multi-quarter goals, often coordinating with and mentoring 2–3 engineers
- Partner closely with product and design to shape requirements, balance innovation with technical trade-offs, and advocate for customer value
- Provide technical leadership in planning and review, ensuring clarity, feasibility, and alignment
- Demonstrated success leading technical projects end-to-end, including mentoring peers and unblocking others
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills; able to explain technical trade-offs to diverse audiences
