Axon is looking to solve the problem of building and operating highly-available, low-latency cloud systems for first responders.

Requirements

  • Proven mastery of backend service development in managed languages such as Go, Java, Scala, or C
  • Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, and at least one IaC tool (Terraform preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL datastores and data-intensive system patterns
  • Production experience with ArgoCD, and k8s autoscaling strategies
  • Track record of driving CI/CD excellence and secure software supply-chain practices
  • Familiarity with connected-device ecosystems or edge-to-cloud data pipelines
  • Experience with modern AI tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT

Responsibilities

  • Lead system design & architecture for large-scale, Kubernetes-based services
  • Set the technical bar: write well-tested, maintainable code; conduct rigorous code and design reviews; and champion engineering best practices across Axon
  • Guide cross-team initiatives: facilitating design/spec reviews, mentoring engineers, and driving pillar-wide improvements in reliability, performance, and operational efficiency
  • Own availability & performance: shape service capacity planning, resource tuning (CPU/memory), SLO/SLA definition, and resilience patterns for mission-critical workloads
  • Advance our DevOps stack: evolve secure, repeatable CI/CD pipelines with ArgoCD, Terraform, and Kubernetes; and integrate robust observability
  • Collaborate deeply with Product, Design, and partner engineering groups to craft integrated solutions that delight customers in public safety and beyond
  • Act as a culture carrier: model growth mindset, inclusive collaboration, and relentless pursuit of Axon’s mission to Protect Life

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years designing, building, and operating distributed, highly-available cloud systems
  • Strong communication skills and the discernment to balance innovation with pragmatic delivery
  • Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and mentor senior engineers
  • Location: Work from home as much as you want, live nearby any of our awesome US R&D Hubs (Seattle, Scottsdale, Atlanta, or Boston)
