Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. Products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend beyond web search. The team builds a high-performance, reliable, and efficient Borglet component to enable ML workloads, from onboarding TPUs/GPUs to ensuring ML applications run efficiently and reliably on top of Borg. This is a key role for infrastructure projects and plays a critical part in the changing Google Cloud business.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • Experience with system software, distributed systems, and multi-component software systems.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Familiarity with the Linux kernel interface.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and analyze low-level computer systems and their interactions with the kernel and hardware.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Collaborate with partner teams as well as users across Google (e.g., Borg team, Machine Learning teams, Hardware platform teams, Site Reliability Engineer teams, Google Cloud).

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack.
