Leidos Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to assure the safety of various Department of Defense and NASA programs, addressing the world's toughest security challenges for customers with "can't fail" missions.
Requirements
- Must demonstrate basic competency in real-time safety or mission critical software systems development using languages such as C, C++, or Ada.
- Proven experience with software safety standards including NASA Standards NASA-STD-8739.8B, NPR 7150.2D, NASA-HDBK-4008, MIL-STD-882E, AMCOM-385-17, MIL_HDK-516C, RTCA DO-178C, or ISO 26262.
- Software safety experience on DoD and NASA programs is preferred.
- Software safety experience in civil aviation, nuclear, automotive, or medical industries will be considered.
- Strong analytical skills along with a personal drive for details and quality workmanship are a must.
- Must possess an aptitude for the technical skills required for software safety including understanding systems and the results of potential system failures.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Responsibilities
- Developing software safety plans and standards
- Working with the customer system safety and software safety organizations
- Working with system safety to analyze systems for hazards
- Developing software safety requirements, ensuring the software safety requirements are implemented and tested in the software systems
- Working with suppliers to ensure supplier products and processes meet program software safety standards
- Generating software safety assessment reports
Other
- Must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree.
- Must have 10+ years of relevant technical experience with a BS degree or 7+ years of experience with a MS degree.
- Good communication skills and have proven leadership skills with the ability to affect outcomes including the ability to persuade on technical topics.
- Self-motivated, paying attention to details, and working under deadlines are key elements of this position as well.
- Candidate must be a resident of North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville/North Alabama area.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Candidate must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
