Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Software Systems Engineer to support the USSF SETA/A&AS contract, providing critical Advisory and Assistance Services to the U.S. Space Force (USSF) for the development and deployment of advanced warfighter capabilities within the Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (BMC3) portfolio. The role aims to guide software architecture, cloud migration strategies, and acquisition planning to shape the future of space systems.
Requirements
- Commercial experience with industry-standard software development practices including Agile and DevSecOps
- Experience implementing CI/CD tools and pipelines
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Active Directory, Confluence, JIRA, and Smartsheet
- Experience with API development and management
- Expertise in designing and implementing enterprise IT solutions aligned with architecture policies and best practices
- Understanding of software change and configuration management policies
Responsibilities
- Drive strategy for transitioning from a mixed cloud/on-premise environment to a multi-hybrid cloud architecture, including design, documentation, and briefings to senior stakeholders
- Support development and coordination of acquisition planning documents such as AoA, ASP, ASD, and J&A
- Contribute to systems engineering activities including requirements definition, interface management, data architecture, verification and validation, integration, performance analysis, lifecycle cost estimation, and configuration assessments
- Assist in transitioning prototype software systems into scalable, microservice-enabled enterprise applications for operational deployment
- Develop and coordinate program planning and execution documents aligned with DoDI 5000.02, the Adaptive Acquisition Framework, and relevant DoD, AF, and SSC policies
- Draft technical evaluations and serve as an advisor during source selections
- Provide technical and programmatic assessments of contractor designs and milestone reviews to evaluate progress, risks, and mission alignment

- Provide expert advice to the Program Manager and senior Space Force leadership on acquisition strategies, contracting, budgeting, and execution
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years of related experience
- In-scope security background investigation (T5 or SSBI), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and enrolled in Continuous Evaluation
- Willingness to be nominated for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP), and to consent to a polygraph examination
- Familiarity with DoD Major Capability Acquisition System and JCIDS processes
