Medtronic is seeking a Software Dev Ops Engineer II to lead the design, automation, and support of their observability stack across Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and AWS, to drive reliability through actionable insights into their systems and applications.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in managing Elastic Cloud (Kibana, Beats, Logstash, Index Lifecycle Policies).
  • Hands-on experience with Dynatrace and Prometheus monitoring stacks, including exporter management and custom dashboards.
  • Strong experience with AWS services (EC2, EKS, S3, IAM, etc.) and Streaming framework (Kafka etc.).
  • Optimize cost, performance, and scalability of observability services within AWS.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship experience; ability to lead cross-functional projects and develop junior team members.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar) for automation and integration.
  • Define and enforce data retention, access control, and multi-tenant observability strategies for Elastic and Prometheus.

Responsibilities

  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and microservices observability patterns.
  • Proven track record implementing Terraform and GitOps practices to enable scalable, reliable, and automated infrastructure delivery.
  • Own the architecture, implementation, and lifecycle management of the observability platform (Elastic Cloud, Dynatrace, Prometheus, & more).
  • Lead efforts to improve logging, monitoring, metrics collection, distributed tracing, and alerting across cloud-native applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, and Architecture teams to define SLIs/SLOs and implement robust observability standards.
  • Evangelize for all observability-related initiatives and mentor junior engineers in best practices.
  • Integrate observability tools into CI/CD pipelines to enable proactive detection and incident response.

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience SRE, observability, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Ability to work on-site 4 days per week as part of the commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Must be able to interact with a computer, and communicate with peers and co-workers.
