The Montana Department of Justice (JITS team) needs a Software Development Supervisor to lead a team of developers to enhance public safety and streamline operations by leveraging technology. This role is crucial for managing IT systems and services that support law enforcement and other state functions.

Requirements

  • Forward-looking towards low code/no code solutions and knowledge of best practices.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, GO, Rust, Perl, etc.
  • Knowledge of various SQL environments: Oracle, MSSQL, Postgres, MariaDB, etc.
  • Knowledge of various scripting languages: Powershell, Bash, etc.
  • Comfortable operating in multiple operating system environments: Windows, Linux, AIX, MacOS, Oracle, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.

Responsibilities

  • This position leads the development, creation, and modification of computer applications and specialized utility programs, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • The role will direct the building, maintenance, testing, and modification of GIS and databases by integrating geospatial information with other specialized datasets and applications.
  • identifying and resolving technical issues, bottlenecks, and development blockers.
  • ensure that development efforts and software solutions align with broader business goals and strategic initiatives
  • identify opportunities to improve efficiency, implement best practices, and introduce new methodologies or technologies.
  • monitoring project progress and report status to upper management.

Other

  • Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology-related field.
  • Four years of experience with software programming and software modification or four years of experience working with or managing GIS systems.
  • Two years of related supervisory experience.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
