The Azure Compute team is building a fault-tolerant distributed system that hosts cloud applications in virtual servers, creating the illusion of limitless, elastic, and always-available resources. The Azure Compute Manager plays a central role in orchestrating these capabilities. The team is driving impactful work across several areas, including scaling clusters, improving virtual machine density, reducing fragmentation, maximizing compute core utilization, developing highly scalable and available microservices for the next-generation Compute Fabric, applying machine learning to build a smarter, event-aware kernel, building large-scale services that prioritize capacity using real-time signals and ML models, expanding microservices to support Azure Networking, Storage, SQL, and fraud prevention, and enhancing the Compute billing pipeline to support Azure’s growth.

Requirements

  • proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
  • Experience with source control and build systems.
  • 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python,
  • 1+ year(s) proficiency handling multiple workstreams in parallel.
  • Experience implementing REST APIs and micro-services.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
