The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs. We are seeking an experienced Software Project Lead with a robust Information Technology (IT) and Software Development background to join our team. The ideal candidate will serve as the technical point of contact for the software development efforts within the Command-and-Control Project Management Office. This role is responsible for leading cross-functional software teams, ensuring alignment with mission-critical objectives, and delivering high-quality software solutions that support NASA's command-and-control infrastructure and supports the associated assigned Command-and-Control Project Manager. The candidate should be familiar with and understand the product lifecycle phases from initiation through delivery. We are seeking an innovative and results-driven Software Project Lead to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment while leveraging cutting-edge tools and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Must have a strong understanding of software development principles, CMMI, VersionOne, software change management processes, and other agile software development tools.
  • Must have experience working with requirements (development, definitions, documentation, etc)
  • Experience in hardware/software development and systems engineering in the Aerospace industry is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is a bonus.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), and Human Machine Interface (HMI) Panel-View displays is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of the GSE subsystem software development projects, ensuring alignment with all interfaces between local & remote software systems.
  • Coordinate activities across software engineering, systems engineering, testing, and integration teams.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to the subsystem software developers.
  • Define and manage their detailed tasks throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Ensure all GSE software deliverables meet NASA's safety, security, and documentation standards.
  • Identify project risks and issues early, develop mitigation strategies, and escalate as necessary to ensure project continuity.

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution and four years related experience.
  • Must be able to coordinate work between multiple project disciplines
  • Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision

  • Experience and demonstrated success with digital transformation concepts, practices, and practical implementation at scale and complexity in an engineering/industrial environment.
  • Experience and demonstrated success developing executable project plans for both macro- and micro- level process and support system/tool changes.
  • If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  • May be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
  • Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, may be required to access various locations on the facility.
  • Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.
  • Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.
  • Variety of equipment used in testing.
  • Full-time work hours.
  • Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.
  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
  • Government security clearance may be required in the future.
