Markel is looking for an Operations Developer to maintain and enhance their core application, which is built on a modern Microsoft stack. The goal is to automate repetitive operational tasks, improve team efficiency, and provide a clear path for the developer to become a full-stack engineer.
Requirements
- Strong, hands-on experience with C-Sharp and a good understanding of the .NET framework.
- Demonstrable ability to write basic SQL queries, including SELECT statements, JOINs, and filtering with WHERE clauses.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure (App Services, App Functions).
- Any experience with a modern JavaScript framework like Angular, React, or Vue.js.
- Prior experience using an Object-Relational Mapper (ORM) like Entity Framework.
- Exposure to NoSQL databases, particularly CosmosDB.
- Experience using Git for source code management.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues within our Azure-hosted environment (App Services and Functions).
- Identify repetitive operational tasks, support requests, and manual processes. Develop scripts and small applications to automate these workflows, reduce manual intervention, and improve overall team efficiency.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of our C-Sharp and .NET backend services, focusing on bug fixes, performance tuning, and small feature enhancements.
- Write and optimize basic SQL queries to support application functionality.
- Work with our CosmosDB instance to manage and query JSON transaction data.
- Work closely with senior developers and the operations team to ensure the stability, scalability, and reliability of our platform.
- Actively learn our full application stack, including the Angular frontend, with the goal of taking on more complex, full-stack development tasks over time.

- 1-3 years of professional experience in a software development role.
- High school diploma required
- A natural troubleshooter with a logical approach to debugging complex issues.
