The BigLake team's mission is to evolve BigQuery into the world's best data lake house platform. Apache Iceberg is rapidly emerging as the de facto table format for the modern lake house, allowing many engines to operate on a single copy of data to power interoperable data and AI workloads with high performance and low cost. BigLake builds on the scalable, reliable foundation of BigQuery to provide a lake house solution spanning catalog APIs, storage management and grooming, data governance, and more. In this role, you will be responsible for helping customers to succeed with BigLake. You will be interested in working on open standards and delighting major Google Cloud customers.

Requirements

  • Experience with both C++ and Performance Analysis.
  • 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas such as Java, Performance Optimization, Database Internals, Open Source Contributor, Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Presto.
  • Experience working within the open data processing ecosystem (e.g., Apache Iceberg or other open table formats, or with Apache Spark, Trino, or other data processing engines).
  • Experience with both Google's production environment and open-source development workflows.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.

Responsibilities

  • Encompass Google's production environment, the open-source Apache Iceberg ecosystem, and open-source data processing engines such as Apache Spark and Trino.
  • Lead execution of projects spanning multiple quarters and collaborate with peers from multiple products within Data Cloud BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, and others.
  • Design, implement, test, and review new BigLake features, and for the quality, engineering excellence, and operational stability of BigQuery and BigLake.
  • Help customers succeed with BigLake.

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
  • Preferred working location from the following: Seattle, WA, USA; Kirkland, WA, USA.
