Whatnot is looking to solve the business and technical problem of upholding platform integrity by designing and building scalable, high-performance systems that enforce policies, detect abuse, and resolve disputes efficiently to prevent fraud and maintain a safe environment for buyers and sellers.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software engineering experience building for consumer-scale loads
- 1+ years of experience writing production code in Python
- Experience with data warehouses and transformation tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Dagster
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable systems for policy enforcement, dispute resolution, and abuse detection
- Develop reusable, high-performance infrastructure supporting internal operations and detection capabilities
- Leverage machine learning, behavioral analysis, and real-time interventions to prevent abuse
- Continuously monitor and improve detection algorithms and operational processes
- Collaborate with product and leadership teams to align technical solutions with business goals
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and findings
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment to ensure high-quality deliverables
Other
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience in Trust, Risk, Integrity, or Fraud domains preferred
- Strong business intuition and a data-driven mindset
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and lead initiatives across multiple product areas
- Comfortable collaborating in a remote environment
- This position is based in the US, with team members expected to be within commuting distance of our hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, or Seattle.
