Zayo is looking to solve the problem of building, scaling, and automating the next generation of network observability infrastructure to support the software engineers focused on device alarming and ticketing.

Requirements

  • Experience working with various databases such as Postgres, MySQL, Neo4j, Oracle, and Elasticsearch
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.) and routing/switching technologies
  • Previous work with metrics collection SNMP and GRPC in both push and pull scenarios
  • Experience with a variety of scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, TypeScript)
  • Experience with IaaC scripting languages, like Ansible and Terraform
  • Experience with open-source observability systems like Prometheus, Grafana, and Cacti
  • Strong knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes

Responsibilities

  • Own the Pipeline: Design, implement, and operate high-scale, fault-tolerant CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms) for testing and deploying monitoring configurations.
  • Drive Developer Velocity: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the development lifecycle (commit-to-deploy time) through sophisticated tooling and automation.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (using Terraform, Ansible, or similar) to manage the build farm and testing environments in our lab and expanding to cloud platform (AWS).
  • Build Observability: Implement comprehensive observability (metrics, logs, traces) into the build pipeline itself to track performance, identify flaky tests, and measure Developer Experience (DevEx) metrics.
  • Code Quality and Standards: Build automated static analysis, linting, and validation tools to enforce high quality and consistency across all monitoring and alerting rule sets.
  • Automate Everything: Aim for complete automation of simple developer tasks. Fault rules can and should be automated end to end, only requiring review from an SME.
  • Consultation & Mentorship: Act as a subject matter expert for developer tools, offering guidance and technical solutions to monitoring teams to help them adopt best practices.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in software development with a variety of languages
  • A passion for tackling complex problems and combining technical solutions with process solutions
