OpenAI's Security Products team is looking to transform cybersecurity by leveraging AI to give defenders a decisive advantage. They aim to bring their internally developed AI-driven security tools to the world and scale their impact.
Requirements
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and modern web technologies.
- Experience in backend programming using Python, Go, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with public cloud environments (Azure or AWS) and infrastructure tooling (Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.).
- Interest in security-related practices, such as secure coding, threat modeling, or detection systems (direct experience not required).
- Interest in AI/ML (direct experience not required).
Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and maintain applications and systems that bring advanced AI-driven security capabilities to real users.
- Design and implement backend services, agentic workflows, API integrations, and user-facing features.
- Integrate cutting-edge AI technologies (including OpenAI’s latest models) into real-world security scenarios.
- Troubleshoot complex systems, improve performance and reliability, and uphold strong engineering and security standards.
- Collaborate across OpenAI’s product, research, engineering, and security organizations to maximize impact.
- Help shape the engineering culture, architecture, and processes of a new business unit with a critical mission.
- Stay informed about emerging AI technologies and security threats to help guide our technical direction.

- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience at technology and product-driven companies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where problems may be ambiguous, emerging, or rapidly evolving.
- Work directly with internal and external customers to deeply understand their workflows and translate them into intuitive, powerful product experiences.
- Collaborate closely with security experts, AI researchers, and product engineers, shaping both the technical foundation and the product direction of a team that is scaling quickly.
