Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is looking to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally, specifically focusing on developing and enhancing Direct-to-Consumer streaming client applications like Disney+ and Hulu on various browsers and JavaScript-based devices, including smart TVs, to provide scalable, performant, and delightful media experiences for millions of global viewers.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
  • Familiarity with front-end web development principles, including HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with a modern front-end library/framework either React or Preact.
  • Experience or coursework related to building sophisticated user interfaces.
  • Experience with our common development tools such as: GitHub, Jenkins, Confluence, JIRA.
  • Prior exposure to developing for limited resource environments or browser-based TV/device platforms (e.g., Samsung Tizen, LG WebOS).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the implementation of new features and improvements for our Direct-to-Consumer applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern web development frameworks.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to build, test, and deliver maintainable and reliable code for platforms like Samsung and LG Smart TVs.
  • Assist in debugging and optimizing application performance, focusing on memory footprint and responsiveness for large-screen viewing experiences.
  • Work closely with UX designers and product managers to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Other

  • Junior or Senior year preferred
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student in an accredited college/university, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
