Corning is looking to develop a C-Sharp application for quality control of optical components. This application will automate the process of acquiring data from measurement hardware, analyzing it, and identifying manufacturing defects, thereby improving the efficiency and accuracy of quality control in their Advanced Optics division.
Requirements
- Experience with software development in C-Sharp, including GUI development with WPF or Winforms.
- Coursework in software architecture, so that the app can be designed flexibly, to be able to test new optical components or use new measurement hardware in the future.
- Familiarity with computer vision, especially experience with a computer vision library (OpenCV, scikit-image, etc.).
- Experience writing software to interface with hardware (i.e cameras, motor controllers, Arduinos/embedded systems, etc.).
- Familiarity with database systems (MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
- Familiarity with C/C++.
- Coursework in wave physics, optics, or interferometry.
Responsibilities
- Develop a C-Sharp application to be used in quality control for aspects of our optical components.
- The application will acquire data on the components by interacting with measurement hardware APIs.
- Analyze the data and flag any detected manufacturing defects.
- Design the app flexibly, to be able to test new optical components or use new measurement hardware in the future.
- Support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems.
Other
- Pursuing a degree in a STEM field, including computer science, software engineering, and computer engineering.
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
