Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, AI-powered platform. Verkada needs to build and lead a software engineering team that builds the entirety of a particular, high-impact product line within the Cameras team to enhance safety and efficiency.
Requirements
- Deep experience with modern Linux system architecture and software.
- Experience acting as a technical lead for a team of 5 or more engineers.
- The embedded software stack runs on an x86-based platform, necessitating work on: UEFI, bootloader, drivers, custom Linux OS distribution via yocto project, containerization, solid-state and hard disk storage, filesystem and block device mapping.
- The device interacts with a scalable cloud backend consisting of golang and python services in a typical microservice architecture stack.
- A Verkada proprietary suite of streaming technologies are implemented to provide high quality live and recorded video.
- Frontends include both web and mobile.
- Security technologies including encryption, signing, secure/trusted boot are also key to our implementation.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead the team through effective recruitment, mentoring, and leadership.
- Build amazing, delightful products that win the market.
- Work with Product Managers and Hardware Team to chart roadmaps.
- Plan and drive project execution.
- Drive product quality, reliability, and user experience.
- Work cross-functionally with other product teams to enhance our products and extend the power of the Verkada platform.
- The team works in concert with a product manager and a hardware manager to define and conceptualize the current and future product offerings, including hardware and software architecture selection.

- 2+ years experience in a management / startup leadership role.
- 4+ years experience in a software engineering role.
- Track record on hiring and retaining excellent engineers.
- Product- and business-savvy mindset -- you need to act as the engineering owner of a strategically important product. The team's execution and your hand in its growth over time will determine the trajectory of this endeavour.
- Superior cross-team communication skills.
- Eye for design, product details, and polish.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week.
