Google is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership and manage a team of engineers working on a research and development platform, potentially including quantum computing, with a focus on improving development velocity, code quality, and code health.
Requirements
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 3 years of experience building tools that improve development velocity, code quality, or code health.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing projects.
- Experience managing or deploying kubernetes.
- Experience with Bazel, Cloud Build, Gerrit, and Git.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and define the long-term goal for a research and development platform.
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions for quantum computing, with a focus on improving development velocity.
- Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Guide the way for exceptional software engineers operating with scale and speed.
- Manage engineers across multiple teams and locations.
- Oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

- 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
- Mentor and coach other engineers, helping them grow their skills and careers.
- Collaborate across reporting chains and roles to understand user needs and translate them into a clear technical roadmap.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
